After You’re Gone
Susan Lawrence
You’re packing your bags, you’re leaving tonight
And the children are watching, their eyes wide with fright
They’re too young to know, just what’s going on
So I’ll try to explain it, after you’re gone
You’re turning your back, on your family
You’re telling me how, you need time to be free
But the children come first, in my thoughts right now
I have to protect them, I hope I’ll know
But what will I say when their tears start to flow
God give me the strength and the wisdom to know
How to make them feel loved, and to calm all their fears
When they are confused and wake up with nightmares
You’re packing your bags, you’re leaving tonight
And the children are watching, their eyes wide with fright
They’re too young to know, just what’s going on
So I’ll try to explain it, after you’re gone
But what will I tell them, after you’re gone
