Summer Romance
Susan Lawrence
It was just a summer romance, best time I’ve had all year
And I can’t wait to sleep at night, and dream that he’s still here
But waking up is hard to do, when the other pillow’s bare
It was just a summer romance, the highlight of my year
It was only for a short time, and I loved him while I could
He was just a little younger, but younger can be good
Well we must have been the talk, of the whole darn neighbourhood
But if I had the chance to do it again you know that I would
Well summer’s come and gone, and winter’s nearly here
And I can’t get to sleep at night, for wishing he’s still here
Oh and the nights they seem so long, when there’s no one here to share
The feelings in my heart, I wish that summer was still here
It was only for a short time but I loved him while I could
He was just a little younger but younger can be good
Well we must have been the talk of the whole darn neighbourhood
But if I had the chance to do it again you know that I would
It was just a summer romance, just a summer romance
It was just a summer romance, just a summer romance

For All Time
Susan Lawrence
You tell me you’re working late again
And you won’t be home till way past ten
But you’re wearing new clothes to work these days
And you’re acting in a most peculiar way
If you’re thinking of leaving, let me know
But if you’re not, then darlin’ tell me so
Can’t you look me in the eyes and tell me dear
That you are not having an affair
Oh won’t you kiss me and tell me your love’s all mine
And that we’ll be together for all time
You tell me you’re going on a business trip
On my jealous mind I have to get a grip
Sometimes I feel I want to quit
But if something is wrong I might as well face it
If you’re thinking of leaving, let me know
But if you’re not then darlin’ tell me so
Can’t you look me in the eyes and tell me dear
That you are not having an affair
Oh won’t you kiss me and tell me your love’s all mine
And that we’ll be together for all time
And that we’ll be together for all time
The Kiss
Susan Lawrence
I was so happy, I was flying high
I tripped over the moon, though it was in the sky
I stopped and took a drink, from the milky way
Sad hello to the stars, and hurried on my way
He kissed me last night, it gave me pure delight
Now I’m head over heels, I’m doing cartwheels
How could anything feel so right
So if you see him today, don’t mention my name
Unless he tells you, that he feels the same
Playing hard to get, is a game that I know
So if he isn’t moving fast, I’d better move slow
He kissed me last night, it gave me pure delight
Now I’m walkin’ on air, I’m in love I fear
How could anything feel so right
He kissed me last night, it gave me pure delight
Now I’m head over heels, I’m doing cartwheels
How could anything feel so right
When She Was Young
Susan Lawrence
There was a time, when she was young
Now her story’s told, her song has been sung
The blush of youth’s rose, has long passed away
Replaced with the wisdom, age brings her each day
She danced in the parlor, when she was a girl
And many fine young men, would ask for a whirl
The graceful young lady, with eyes like the sky
And fiery red hair, turned white by and by
The beautiful dresses, her hair all in curls
She had once been, the prettiest of girls
But time it has ravaged, those features so fair
Now she passes the time, in her rocking chair
She watches young lovers, as they pass by her house
Playing their silly games, of cat and of mouse
And she thinks of her husband, long gone rest his soul
He’d been such a strong man, so brave and so bold
Now she quietly sits, with her memories alone
And all of her children, have grown up and gone
Now her story’s over, her song has been sung
But there was a time, when she was young
Yes, there was a time, when she was young
Mommy’s Little Man
Susan Lawrence
I thought I was complete, I didn’t realize
The emptiness inside of me, till I looked in your eyes
Although I was ready, to love somebody new
I was overwhelmed, by the love I felt for you
I feel you really need me, and I’ll do the best I can
To show how much I love you, Mommy’s little man
Though you’re not my only child, you will have a special place
Right inside my heart, next to your sister’s face
I look forward to the years ahead, of a love that’s meant to last
And the day that you reach manhood, I fear will come to fast
I know there’ll be a time, when you will have to go
You will start a family, and watch your children grow
But if you ever need me, I will do the best I can
To love, support and guide you, Mommy’s little man
No Money
Susan Lawrence
We ain’t got no money, we do have lots of bills
We don’t have fancy groceries, but peanut butter fills
The bills are coming in so fast, the rent is overdue
The only letters we get are U.I.C and I.O.U.
We only go to the movies, on night’s when they’re half price
If we could buy a ticket, it might be kind of nice
We go to the bowling alley, to rent a pair of shoes
But they wont let us take them home, I ask you what’s the use
A man can’t get ahead today, without a lot of money
So home in front of the tv, is my ever-lovin’ honey
He doesn’t mind that the tv’s broke, he listens to the radio
And he pictures people on the screen, he imagines every show
We’ve been livin’ together, under what’s called common law
And though the welfare pays our rent, we’re livin’ with my ma
This is great for when I’m sick, my mother can get his beer
And roll him some more cigarettes, and wash his underwear
Ma and me are so happy, our feet don’t touch the ground
It seems like such a comfort, to have a man around
And though we have no riches, we still have happiness
And to keep us women busy, he let’s us clean his mess
Yeah the days don’t seem so long because, he let’s us clean his mess
God Love Puppies Too
Susan Lawrence
She looked into the little face, of the child upon her knee
Whose little heart was breaking for all the world to see
And she thought about the question, and wondered 'Lord what should I do?'
Then the answer seemed so simple to her, God loves puppies too
God loves little puppies, and all creatures great and small
For they all belong to him, the fat thin short and tall
And while he is not with you , he’ll never be alone
He’s up there with the angels, sitting round God’s throne
You see the puppy had been sick, and no one could make it right
So god came for that little pup, sometime during the night
But the little child, was so afraid, the puppy would be alone
So the woman calmed the little child, the only way she’d known
God loves little puppies, and all creatures great and small
For they all belong to him, the fat thin short and tall
But while He is not with you , he’ll never be alone
He’s up there with the angels, sitting round God’s throne
Circles Made of Gold (duet)
Gus Burton
I should not have been married in a gown of pure white
For he was not the first man to ever hold me tight
There is no man I love more than the man beside me now
And in the years ahead I know I’ll keep each wedding vow
I know I’m not the first man, that she has ever known
But after tonight I know she’ll be mine alone
She says she loves me dearly this lady in my life
And I will always cherish the day I took her for my wife
I am no angel (I’m not looking for no wings)
But I love you dearly (That’s why we exchanged these rings)
What’s done is done and in the past and better left untold
But we’ll find peace and happiness in these circles made of gold
When I think of the time I’ve wasted, going from man to man
Never finding happiness, I couldn’t understand
But there’s truth in that old saying, for everyone there’s a perfect mate
I’m so glad that I found you, before it was too late
My friends all think I’m crazy, for fallin’ for a girl like you
They can’t seem to understand, the love I feel for you
My life it had no meaning, it was full of emptiness
But now I have you by my side, I have happiness
I am no angel (I’m not looking for no wings)
But I love you truly (That’s why we exchanged these rings)
What’s done is done and in the past and better left untold
But we’ll find peace and happiness in these circles made of gold
Yes we’ll find peace and happiness in these circles made of gold
In Love Again
Susan Lawrence
You know you got he power ,to make my knees weak
You affect me so, that I can hardly speak
You walk in the room, my body lets me down
I quake and I quiver, whenever you’re around
I remember when I met you, the memory is complete
With your fine leather jacket, cowboy boots upon your feet
In your slim fittin’ Levis, you looked seven feet tall
I can’t catch my breath, I think I’m gonna fall
In love again, I’m in way to deep
In love again, you swept me off my feet
In love again, oh what am I to do
When a man affects a woman, oh baby like you do
You know I’ve never known a man, that’s quite like you
You’re so strong I see, your courage shining through
Your attitude it always, seems so positive
I’m so glad to be around you, it’s with you I want to live
You never cease to amaze me with the things that you can do
When think that I know everything, you do something new
Every single day that passes, I see you in a new light
And whenever I‘m around you, I think I’m fallin’ right
In love again, I’m in way to deep
In love again, you swept me off my feet
In love again, oh what am I to do
When a man affects a woman, oh baby like you do

After You’re Gone
Susan Lawrence
You’re packing your bags, you’re leaving tonight
And the children are watching, their eyes wide with fright
They’re too young to know, just what’s going on
So I’ll try to explain it, after you’re gone
You’re turning your back, on your family
You’re telling me how, you need time to be free
But the children come first, in my thoughts right now
I have to protect them, I hope I’ll know
But what will I say when their tears start to flow
God give me the strength and the wisdom to know
How to make them feel loved, and to calm all their fears
When they are confused and wake up with nightmares
You’re packing your bags, you’re leaving tonight
And the children are watching, their eyes wide with fright
They’re too young to know, just what’s going on
